Finding A Chow Friendly Veterinarian

QI just wanted to compliment you on your support and care for chow chows! I am a new owner of a chow chow puppy named "Won-Ton", he goes everywhere with me and I would have to say he is the "smartest" pup I have ever had. Although, I am having a slight problem getting him to want to socialize with other people, he is almost 10 weeks old and he doesn't want too much to do with other people. If you can make any suggestions on this problem, I would love the advice because I love my dog! Also, I just took in two abandoned kittens that barely have their eyes open and he is Won-Ton is being a great help in taking care of them, he sleeps with them, cleans them and becomes very concerned when they sound unhappy. This is shocking to me only because of all the bad things I have heard about "Chows".

One more thing I was wondering if you could help me out on is how to choose a good vet? The vet I take my other dog (pit bull) to has been great up until I took little Won-Ton in to see him, he dislikes chows so much that the last two times I've taken my pup in (for shots) he has in his own way advised me to reconsider having a chow for a pet. He says this is the only breed that he does not recommend a person to get. For this reason I would be scared to take my puppy to him if anything was to happen to him — I'm worried that he would just want to put him to sleep.

AHave you read the socialization tips? There you can get some ideas and in the right direction. The only thing I can suggest is to contact your local vet's in your area and talk with them and let them know about your concerns. When you call, ask for a good time to speak with the vet. then give them a call and speak directly with the doctor's. This way you will get the right answer. Sometimes the secretaries just give their own personal opinions. Also you can try to find some breeders and other rescue organizations and see what they can recommend for a vet. You might get a lot of negatives, but you should be able to find one that will work with Chow's.
